It’s election season again, and this means the Presidential race is back on! Word is, there’s a trend we’ll have to keep our eye on whilst on the political battleground this year… And according to CNN Politics, it just so happens to be #Mobile! Although digital was already a huge asset for Barack Obama during the 2008 and 2012 elections, 2016 will be a whole new playing field.
Aaron Smith, a senior researcher at Pew, said that the use of mobile technologies by political campaigns in 2016 could be similar to the way campaigns embraced social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter in the 2008 campaign.
“I suspect what we’ll see is where mobile becomes a standard facet of how people interact with and get news about what’s happening in the political process,” Smith said.
Since the last election, mobile has grown exponentially and has become a major source of information for Americans looking for news online. Therefore, efficient mobile strategies will play a crucial role in the upcoming elections. For Candidates who are willing to adapt with the times, this means focusing primarily on mobile to reach out, connect, and engage with potential voters and donors.
“Everyone is implementing mobile solutions right now,” said Larry Huynh, a partner at Trilogy Interactive, a digital consultancy for political campaigns and advocacy groups. Campaigns that aren’t using mobile technology to reach voters “are doing it wrong,”Huynh said.
